Welcome to my Web2.0 page. For those not familiary with what Web2.0 is, it boils down to applications and tools which can be used entirely on the Internet FOR FREE (in most cases). In other words, this software does not need to be downloaded on your computer, and can be used from ANY computer with Internet access. Its is non-proprietary and independant.
Some call these specific tools 'web as platform' tools where the web is the hosting apparatus for the software. They would draw a distinction between these tools and define Web 2.0 more specifically as those tools specifically with a 'social networking' element where people can share and collaberate from different computers on the same platform (see more detailed info below). However, I personally choose not to draw this distinction. You can decide then for yourself what YOU think Web 2.0 is.
However, another important attribute of Web2.0 applications is that they are collaberative. In other words, the applications allow users to contribute their own personal content (webpages, thoughts, videos, audio, etc) in multiple formats and share that content with others. It is all about you, and what you have to share and contribute with others.
Click HERE for a more in-depth definition and description of what Web 2.0 is.
You can also check out the following handout from the "What is Web 2.0" program presented at Passaic County Community College (NJ) on March 20, 2007. It is in .PDF format: What is Web 2.0?
Finally, if your more interest in web as platform tools versus the whole 'social networking' thing, you have to check out Simple Spark. It is a catalog of web as platform applications. It is the best resource I have found for finding a specific web application to complete the task you would like to.
You can also feel free to check out the following YouTube videos giving some explanations of Web2.0
Web2.0 applications and tools are growing like wildfire and it is truly amazing the types of things you can do with these tools. Some of the tasks include project management, word processing, spreadsheet creation, social networking (software that allows you to connect with others, as well as share ideas, thoughts, pictures, music, video, and other multimedia), viewing video and listening to audio, online learning, EASY website creation such as wikis, and much much more.
I also plan on updating this page with other useful gadgets and Web2.0 information so keep coming back!
Included in the general umbrella category of Web2.0 tools are RSS feeds, blogs, widgets, social networking applications as well. You may have heard of YouTube, MySpace, Del.icio.us, Flickr and other applications, but never knew what the were or tried them out. Now is the time!!!
Below is a growing list I am always adding to of Web2.0 tools and applications so feel free to use these links and try them out. This list is from my De.licio.us, which is a social bookmarking tool which allows you to create favorites, organize them and access them from any computer. It also allows others to access them as a way to share great websites. Anyway, below is a Delicious widget which allows me to share my Web2.0 links with you. Try some out. They may change the way your work, play, and use the Internet!
This is a very cumbersome list that continued to grow so. You can also view these links with more topic specific tags by clicking the link at the top fo the list "My Web2.0 Delicious". This will bring you to a page which displays the list below in more specific subject groups (its a little easier to browse and choose which you'd like to explore.
NOTE: If you do not see the gadgets, lists, etc appear below, refresh your webpage. You should get it then (hopefully!)
