PowerPoint is a powerful and useful slideshow creation software. Powerpoint allows you to create individual slides which can contain text, images, audio and/or video, order them as you would like them to appear, and then play them in that order as a slideshow. Slideshows have many practical applications such as organizing content for use as cues during presentations and demonstrations, displaying and describing content such as photographs, as well as using visual aids to convey a core set of themes, thoughts or ideas. There are other slide presentations programs as well, including those that exist entirely on the web and offer some very unique features and characteristics (a list of these is included at the bottom of this page).
Links
http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/training/CR061832731033.aspx - PowerPoint 2003 Tutorials from Microsoft Office Online.
